| Booligal Hotel |
Have decided to start the blog from day 1 as we leave home and head for Booligal. We pass through the canola and rice regions south of Echuca where wedge tailed eagles rest just off the road waiting to return to their feed of road kill. Across the border we enter "The Long Paddock", a stock droving route between Echuca and Wilcannia and wend our way through Deniliquin and Hay. Along the way, a flock of sheep is being kept in check by a drover and his dog, both lurched on a quad bike. Unfenced road means encountering grazing cattle with young feeding on the roadside spring grasses.

At the Booligal Hotel, also signed as the Prince of Edinburgh Hotel, we are assigned a small room barely large enough to house the single and double beds contained within. A young lad then turns up with a bar fridge and a table, which he adds to the already cramped room. It's out the back of the hotel in an old building comprising five similar rooms, opposite another building with two rooms occupied by shearers. These blokes are currently tackling a flock of 5000 sheep, and shear between 140 and 160 sheep each day.
Ian, a part-time local, joins us for a chat before tea. He recently purchased a few acres on the edge of town on the banks of the Lachlan River, and hopes to establish a place for his family to holiday, and also offer camping spots for passing travellers.
